The Assembly Women

Project Producer

I worked as the Project Producer for The Assembly Women from June 2021 to March 2022 to help acquire funding from The British Council and complete an Arts Council England application. The project is inspired by the success of the Women’s Comedy Workshop, a participatory project that empowers women through stand-up comedy. Led by Natalie Diddams, the Women’s Comedy Workshop has seen 120 women grabbing the mic in the last 5 years.

The Women’s Comedy Workshop is currently based at Theatre in the Mill in Bradford, UK, but Natalie has also run the workshop in Karachi and Kathmandu.

The Assembly Women will take the work of The Women’s Comedy Workshop to the next level by creating an opportunity for women from different parts of the world to collaborate, create comedy and have their voices heard.

The project is inspired by The Assembly Women - an ancient Greek comedy by Aristophanes. In the play, the women of Athens assume control of government and instate a series of political and social reforms.

I worked alongside Natalie to create marketing materials, create a website, build global partnerships, and craft funding applications. I can proudly say (as of May 2022) that Natalie received funding from the British Council and Arts Council England for The Assembly Women.
